Best Chicken Rice In Singapore
Oh yes, whenever I think about the best chicken rice in Singapore, I can’t help but salivate.
Chicken rice is arguably the most common all-time favorite food in Singapore for various reasons.
Maybe it’s because of its convenience; you can find a stall selling it in virtually any coffeeshop or food court. Or perhaps it’s really easy to eat and order; you don’t have to think about what dishes to mix and match … just, well, chicken rice!
Having said that, I guess precisely because it’s such a popular food item, many wannabes who think they can whip up a decent concoction simply set up shop all over Singapore. So it’s one feeding the other in a way.
Given the sheer number of stalls and lack of quality control, it’s not surprising to come across a stall where the offering simply ‘cannot make it’.
Of course, by and large, you can’t go too wrong when preparing it, that’s why majority of the standard is so-so (average).
Nevertheless, for hard core fans, knowing where to locate the best chicken rice in Singapore is almost a life mission.

Ming Kee Chicken Rice & Porridge
Every time I walk past Kim San Leng Coffeeshop at 511 Bishan St.13 and notice the killer queue at this stall, I can’t help but think that the stall owners are laughing their way to the bank.
Out of all the different stalls selling different kinds of food in Kim San Leng, Ming Kee is the only one there with such a monstrous queue … and that’s a daily affair.
I’m not sure exactly when it got so popular but I’m guessing it’s got something to do with one of the Singapore Idol contestants who confessed on live TV that this was his favorite stall.
Ever since then, there was never once I’ve seen the stall to be queue-less.
If it was a passing fad, i.e. if the chicken rice was no big deal, then the queue would have subsided.
But time has proven that this is not the case. In fact, this is one of my favorites too!
I think what does it for me is partly the generous serving of meat (I personally like breast meat) that looks so fresh and succulent.
And as I notice them preparing it, I do see them sprinkling about 3 different kinds of sauces on the meat just before serving. That’s some kind of ‘secret’ formula I think.
And when I pour the dark sauce over the meat and rice, and sink the first bite, I’m in gastronomical heaven.
I know I’m going to hate myself for adding yet another posting of the “best chicken rice in Singapore” to the gargantuan list of recommendations already out there … because I’d simply be adding to the queue at this stall.
But hey, sharing is having more … and there’s always more than enough. Abundance.
