Best Japanese Restaurant In Singapore
It’s true; it’s not easy to determine the best Japanese restaurant in Singapore simply because more and more Japanese restaurant owners are stepping up their game to offer the most ‘oishi’ foods that hails from Japan.
I myself am a big fan of solid Japanese cuisine, and I can understand why many devoted fans are willing to queue for hours outside of their favourite eatery just so that they can enjoy some really, really good food.

Best Japanese Restaurant In Singapore
In Singapore, we’re blessed enough to have some of the finest ‘Nippon’ delicacies being whipped up right on our shores, so that both Singaporeans and even foreigners alike can get to savour them even without visiting Japan.
And since the variety of styles within the Japanese category is wide and colourful, from steamboat to ‘teppanyaki’, the eager foodist is indeed spoilt for choice.
I can’t decide which of the following is the definitive best Japanese restaurant in Singapore but all of them serve up top notch quality Japanese food no less.
1. Tonkichi
One of the more pricey ones in Singapore (that’s why I don’t visit too often! haha), the quality of food definitely justifies the hefty price tag.
Their popular items revolve mainly around fried pork, while almost all items on the menu comes with free flow of cabbage and rice.
The atmosphere of the restaurant and presentation of the food makes one highly satisfied and wanting more.
2. Raku
Situated along the more ‘atas’ (high class) area of Bukit Timah, nested comfortably along Greenwood Avenue, Raku is also one of the more premium Japanese restaurants in Singapore that seemingly serves the Japanese elite, the ‘gaijin’ and yes, some locals with deep pockets.
Nevertheless, it definitely feels good to save up and splurge once in awhile, knowing you have just eaten like royalty.
And because of the more secluded location, it’s perfect to bring your date or better half for a special occasion.
3. Itacho
Slightly more accessible (price-wise) to the masses, Itacho doesn’t pale in comparison to many other competitors in the market.
Leagues above the likes of Sakae Sushi, Itacho is popular for its fresh sashimi prepared ‘live’ in front of patrons as well as the crowd favorite ‘roasted’ ones that are flame-grilled to perfection.
It is not uncommon to see crazy queues that can last hours outside of an Itacho restaurant, especially when they have special deals going on (sometimes up to 50% off some items on the menu).
An ideal place to hang out with friends and family to enjoy a scrumptious Japanese meal.
So there you have it; just 3 recommendations to get you started on your hunt for the “best Japanese restaurant in Singapore”. Take your time, visit them all and expand your palette.
Have fun!
